The solution is to understand that god knows all of this and that the thoughts are not an issue for him. Just let them be there.
Does god understand ocd. Were assured that god does judge the motives and intents of the heart, even if oppressed by external influences, although the nature of the oppression does not reflect the true motives of the oppressed. But the danger of ocd is that one can allow it to take over, and that is where i think this confuses the subject. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.
Just let them be there. I cant help but wonder if it offends god or jesus even when i cant even stop them even when i want to. Jesus said, “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free,” and i am a living testimony of the veracity of those words.
Obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) is a mental illness that many people, including christians, struggle with. Ocd wants me to believe that worry, anxiety, and compulsions will protect me spiritually. While ocd is not mentioned by name in scripture, the word worry occurs 36 times (nlt).
Having struggled with scrupulosity and now gaining greater assurance, i believe one reason god allows ocd is so that those who are forgiven much will love much. This ocd will make you feel he will punish you. Paul continues in colossians 2:20, “if with christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations.
Ocd is a broad disorder that encompasses many subgroups: God has a plan for me, and though my mind, my ocd tendencies and intrusive thoughts tell me otherwise, i can rest in the promise of god’s word, knowing that the truth of the bible is so much better than the false truth that i “feel” from day to day, as my feelings can change like the wind. If you’re rolling in agony to figure out god’s voice, then the thoughts probably stem from your ocd.
And if they stem from your ocd, then you have permission to let go of them. “in our diagnosis of ocd, we would do well to consider the whole person, soul as well as body.” but the colossians, it seems, had forgotten that. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to god.
Its important to understand that religious beliefs, acceptance of them, denouncement or disbelief in them has no real benefit when dealing with ocd, in much the same way as discussing hygiene practises with someone with contamination issues. Ocd wants me to fight with my thoughts and try to control and suppress them.
The photos were taken in order to calm down my ocd worry and i was not looking for evidence. “i have to keep my desk clean, i think i have ocd.” something of this nature is what many people might attribute to ocd tendencies, but it’s not an accurate depiction. Also be sure to talk to some professional about this if you arent already, someone who is experienced with working with ocd brains.
Its a terrible feeling that i get where i am going to be punished because my intrusive thoughts have a will on its own and is inherently evil. Or by a combination of such obsessions and. But god had mercy on me, and in answer to the prayers of my family, friends, and other believers, i was delivered from ocd.
That is all part of the trick ocd wants me to believe. God understands and doesnt love you any less for it. In reality , your ocd said it not you.
As strange as it may seem, the answer is to let them come and not react to them. That being said, it is important for those suffering from ocd to look at what the bible says about anxiety and the trustworthiness of god. I often have misbehaving, terrible, and blasphemous thoughts that my ocd conjures everyday.
Ocd is an anxiety disorder that usually develops during adolescences. Ignore the anxious feelings that are telling you to sacrifice a, b, or c. Preferrably a christian, for this kind of thing.
I believe god fully understands our limitations. I would encourage you to keep seeking him, even if it does feel forced. It is not safe to live in the presence of one’s anxieties, moreso than in god’s presence.
The remainder of this answer can help with ocd quality thoughts but know that god has provided you with the path to his forgiveness through faith that christ jesus died, was buried and was resurrected through the power of god, for your sins. The solution is to understand that god knows all of this and that the thoughts are not an issue for him. Would they punish a mentally ill man?
We all have distorted and even very strange thoughts that we can’t control. It happened after i came to a fuller understanding of a single bible verse! What ocd does is , it produces a thought in your voice and force you to believe that you said it.
Yet i maybe have experienced more happiness about gods grace than some people without ocd may have. By repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety; Luther says that god allows ocd in order to cure us of “righteousness and presumption.” that means, essentially, to cure us of too much boldness in what we claim for ourselves.
Michael emlet, a faculty member with ccef ( christian counseling and education foundation ), says, “an obsession is a persistent thought. You are not your voice. He understands ocd better than anyone!
I have felt such extreme, horrific guilt in my life due to my ocd. Scrupulosity and ocd once seemed like “erring on the safe side.” but this is false. I have ocd, i am mentally ill, i have scrupulosity, god or gods know it, they know how much i suffer every day and if in case we are in a simulation, they probably know that i was not trying to expose anything.
People who experience this form of ocd suffer from obsessive religious doubts and fears, unwanted. Many don’t understand ocd (obsession compulsion disorder). You are not your condition.
In the case of religious ocd (also known as scrupulosity), the person is fixated on obsessions that are based in religion and/or religious beliefs, or around beliefs concerning morality. To help us understand ocd in general, let’s first consider the definitions of “obsession” and “compulsion”. The lord is at hand;
We think we ought to be able to control our circumstances so that bad things never happen to us. I believe that god only judges us for sins (actions) that we do rebelliously with a high hand. The consistent warning is not to worry.
They have no power and they have no significance. Remember, god loves you no matter what, and he wants you to get the help you need to overcome ocd. And the peace of god, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in christ jesus.
First let me give you the “textbook definition” of ocd. This kind of ocd has been called religious ocd or scrupulosity (think “scruples”). God understands that intrusive thoughts are distressing to me.
It’s often brought up in a humorous tone.
